New video out for Thoughts of Home

Thoughts of Home was composed for the BBC film The Windermere Children presented here in a new and more elaborate version than the original. The original soundtrack was nominated for Music + Sound Award for Best Original Composition in a Television Programme Score for The Windermere Children.

The movie tells the true story of a group of orphans who were brought to the Lake District in England after being released from forced labor camps during World War II. The poetry of Baranowski’s grandfather and the paintings of his grandmother, inspired by their wartime experiences, were an important source of inspiration for this play as well as for the story of the film.

Thanks to the amazing team behind this video!!

ANGÈLE DUBEAU WINS THE FÉLIX AWARD FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR – CLASSICAL FOR ELLE!

Last spring, Angèle Dubeau released Elle on the Analekta label, an opus featuring compositions carefully selected from a wealth of women composers from both here and abroad that inspire her and strike a special chord with the virtuoso’s violin. This feminine opus incidentally marked the twenty-five years of La Pietà, an important anniversary in Angèle Dubeau’s career. The violinist was therefore immensely happy and filled with humility to be awarded the Félix for Album of the Year – Classical at the first 2022 ADISQ Gala!

On the subject of ELLE, Ms. Dubeau emphasized wanting to create “an album entirely conceived, played and composed by women. ELLE, in the singular, because each woman is unique…. My musical approach focused on current composers, but I nevertheless wanted to travel back in time to Hildegard von Bingen, an important 12th-century visionary whose writings and scores survive to this day.” A proposition that succeeded in conquering, or reconnecting with, a loyal audience that has been there for her for several decades, and that rose to top spots on Canadian and genre charts while giving rise to memorable concerts before packed houses.

Angèle Dubeau and La Pietà, along with all their collaborators, wish to thank everyone who participated in bringing Elle to completion, and to pay special tribute to the audience that has stood by them for so many years and without whom all this adventure would not be possible. From the bottom of our hearts: THANK YOU!

Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà – Portrait : Alex Baranowski

Faithful to her passion for seeking out rare musical gems, Angèle Dubeau presents Portrait: Alex Baranowski, the sixth opus in her series of recordings dedicated to living composers, which began in 2008 with Portrait: Philippe Glass. It’s available online and on CD starting October 14.

The album includes several of Baranowski’s most important works, along with three world premieres, including Wiosna, a commission that Baranowski describes as one of his most intimate compositions. For this album, the composer reworked and arranged all the compositions especially for Angèle Dubeau and her orchestra, La Pietà. Built around the concept of a portrait of a great composer, the recording is an opportunity to discover the work of a rising star of contemporary classical music, performed by one of the great virtuosos of our time and her remarkable all-women ensemble.

“When I first heard his work, it was immediately clear to me that he wrote superbly for violin and that his catalogue merited exploration. What I found was beautiful, generous, and varied music, rich in its soundscapes and wondrously expressive.” – Angèle Dubeau, O.C., C.Q., O.M., DFA.

Alex Baranowski is a young, successful, award-winning composer based in London. His beautiful, generous, and atmospheric works reveal a wonderfully expressive and sensitive writing for the violin, as performed breathtakingly by Angèle Dubeau and her unique ensemble, La Pietà.

 Angèle Dubeau

Following the undeniable success of Les Dames du Lac in the summer of 2020, two concerts on water that were magical, a strong demand has built up to repeat the event in 2021. Therefore, again in the majestic setting of Mont-Tremblant, two unforgettable concerts of Les Dames du Lac will be presented by violinist Angèle Dubeau accompanied by the 9 musicians of La Pietà performing a new musical program. These events, imagined by Angèle Dubeau in the context of the pandemic, will allow spectators to listen to high-quality musical performances aboard their own watercraft (canoe, kayak, paddleboard, etc.) while respecting social distancing measures.

The free concerts will take place on:

  • Saturday July 24 at Lac Tremblant at 4 p.m. The stage will be situated in front of the Hotel Quintessence dock and the access to the lake will be from the Parc Plage.
  • Sunday July 25 at Lac Mercier at 4 p.m. The stage will be situated in front of the municipal beach and the access to the lake will be from the boat ramp at the municipal beach.

These free concerts are made possible thanks to the generous support of three loyal partners, Ville de Mont-Tremblant, SODEC and Québecor. We also wish to thank the Lac Tremblant and Lac Mercier Associations as well as the Hotel Quintessence, the Centre Nautique Pierre Plouffe-Tremblant and Brian Arnott for their exceptional collaboration.

It is important to know that it will only be possible to attend the concerts from a personal watercraft and that it will not be possible to enjoy the concerts from the shore. It is also important to note that only residents along the shores of Lac Mercier and Lac Tremblant will be entitled to the use of motorboats.

Depending on the evolution of the pandemic context, the organizers reserve the right to restrict the number of watercrafts allowed on the lakes. As well, all watercrafts must have been washed beforehand. We urge the public to respect the social distancing guidelines issued by the government. We ask anyone with COVID-19 symptoms to not to attend these concerts.

ANGÈLE DUBEAU PRESENTS THE ALBUM PULSATIONS

With a career spanning over four decades and an impressive discography of more than forty albums, Angèle Dubeau continues to leave her mark in today’s music world. Her virtuosity brings her on the most prestigious stages and she continues to be awarded international prizes for her recordings and to receive honors for her career.

Pulsations, the violinist’s new album, brings together works that evoke strong images and possess a profound emotional intensity. In addition to the excellence of her playing, she has a flair for finding and recording the works of remarkable composers, thus placing her at the center of the post-minimalist movement, one of the most relevant musical genres of our time. The public’s increasing interest for some of these composers whose works are featured on Pulsations tells us that we are witnessing the emergence of a golden age for this contemporary music.

A pulsation marks time, it infuses its rhythm in it and also evokes the heart. Just like those composers whose music calls out to me and who, with their unique signatures, mark time, our time; Olafur Arnalds, Jean-Michel Blais, Ludovico Einaudi, Alex Baranowski, Craig Armstrong, Peter Gregson, Yann Tiersen, Abel Korzeniowski, Johan Johannsson, Max Richter and Dalal.” — Angèle Dubeau, O.C., C.Q., O.M.

Once again, Angèle Dubeau is accompanied by the excellent musicians of her all-female string ensemble La Pietà, with whom she has been playing for over 20 years.

Her previous album, Ovation, released last year, was chosen as Album of the Week by important radio stations like Classic FM in London, KDFC in San Francisco and KUSC in Los Angeles. Angèle Dubeau is also one of the rare classical musicians in the world to have received Gold Records. In her career, she has sold more than 600,000 albums and her recordings have been streamed 80 million times, in a total of more than 100 countries.
